Developing a mobile app goes beyond writing code. It’s about making the right decisions in areas such as architecture, frameworks, security, and release processes. Only then can you create an app that is stable, secure, and built for the future. At Cube, quality comes first, combined with efficiency and maximum value for the customer.
A strong app starts with the right technical choices. In Sprint 0, we determine which framework best suits the objectives, performance requirements, and technical context of the project. We look at scaleability, integrations, long-term maintenance, and the extent to which native functionality is required. By defining this clearly in advance, we not only build faster, but also avoid technical limitations in later phases.
For hybrid development, we use React Native (in combination with Expo) and Flutter. Both frameworks make it possible to develop apps for iOS and Android from a single codebase. Which technology we choose depends on the specific customer and assignment. We consider factors such as quality, technical complexity, customer demand, and future-proofing. React Native with Expo is ideal for rapid development, a rich ecosystem, and easy web usage, while Flutter is better suited to apps that require more technical control and architectural flexibility.
At React Native, we consciously choose Expo. This allows us to build via the Expo build server, benefit from a mature package ecosystem, and requires hardly any native code customization. This significantly speeds up both development and maintenance. An additional advantage is that a web variant can be easily linked and the app can be loaded as a “drawer” on a website, for example. With Expo, this is much faster and smoother.
We use Flutter for more complex apps. It offers advantages in terms of type safety and architecture, thanks in part to null safety. We manage the native iOS and Android projects ourselves, but make as few changes as possible. This gives us the flexibility to solve specific technical components natively and allow them to communicate with Flutter in a controlled manner. We build Flutter apps locally, which gives us extra control over build and release processes.

Quality and safety are top priorities at every step of the process. Our development cycle is tight: an issue is addressed, reviewed by both AI and a developer via a merge request, manually tested on the device, and only then tested by the customer. Only when everything has been approved does it become part of a release.
Test versions play a crucial role in this. For iOS, we use TestFlight, and for Android, we use Google Play's internal test track. Customers can test functionality immediately and provide feedback, allowing us to detect problems early on. We also use Sentry for crash monitoring and store compact logs on the device. This helps to detect complex issues, for example with functions such as calling. Automatic tests run in the pipeline to ensure that new functionalities do not break existing components.

Our apps communicate via our own DMP when no customer API is available. This keeps the business logic central, ensures secure communication, and maintains system flexibility. If a customer API is available, we use it directly. This keeps the apps stable and reliable, regardless of external systems.
Apps are published with great care, with iOS being manually reviewed by Apple and Android following a partially automated process with strict guidelines. Privacy, metadata, version numbers, and changelogs are fully compliant with GDPR. Test versions give customers the opportunity to try out new features and identify errors early on.
AI supports developers without taking over their work. It detects potential errors, assists with code reviews, and offers code completion during development. In addition, AI analyzes log files and improves documentation, enabling apps to be developed faster, more consistently, and more clearly.
Apps remain future-proof because iOS and Android platform updates are actively monitored and new dependency versions are implemented in a timely manner. Compatibility updates are fully tested to ensure that apps remain stable, secure, and user-friendly, even with new platform versions.
Code is designed to be compact and reusable, making maintenance and future expansions easy. Projects contain clear README files with work and code agreements, allowing new developers to get started quickly. Architecture and improvements are shared and applied across the cube.
Consistent standards and good management ensure reliable apps. Rapid development, fewer errors, and clear documentation improve quality. This allows customers to benefit from stable, user-friendly, and future-proof solutions.
It always starts with a conversation that focuses on the customer's needs. We don't just talk about functionality, but also about the context: who the end users are, what challenges they face, and what results the organization wants to achieve. This initial contact forms the basis: everyone understands what the product should contribute, so that the entire process is focused on value from the outset.
In Sprint 0 ,we dive deep into the analysis. We examine existing systems, look at possible technical obstacles, and make architectural choices that form the basis for the entire project. Together with the customer, we identify risks, set priorities, and address the most complex parts of the app.
An important part of this phase is the design sprint. Here, we flesh out the ideas and determine exactly what the most important screens and functionalities will look like. This way, the customer knows what to expect and everything can be developed efficiently. Before the first line of code is written, everything is clear and the path to development is clear.
During the development sprints, we work iteratively: step by step, we build functionality and show interim demos. The customer can provide immediate feedback, allowing adjustments to be made right away. Thanks to the earlier design sprint, development is efficient, the process is dynamic and engaging, and the product grows in line with the real needs of the users.
Upon delivery, we present a complete version of the app in a final demo. Final feedback is incorporated and the app is prepared for publication in the stores. This means that everything is checked: testing, metadata, privacy settings, and changelogs. This ensures that the launch goes smoothly and that the app works reliably and professionally for users from day one.
After going live, the team remains closely involved. Bug fixes, minor optimizations, and feedback from real users are addressed immediately. This gives the customer peace of mind: problems are solved quickly, the app remains stable, and performance is continuously monitored. The team is ready to provide support, so that users don't have to worry and can rely on a trustworthy product.
The product continues to evolve. New features are added, platform updates are implemented, and improvements are continuously tested. By evaluating the app together with the customer, we ensure that it remains future-proof and increasingly meets the needs of users. At Cube, the focus is on customer projects, but developing our own products is no stranger to us and is on the roadmap for the coming years. The scope of assignments varies. We have multi-year intensive collaborations with clients whose entire digital landscape we manage, and we work on projects with a clear head and tail. Every project is different, and every client has different requirements and starting points. Security comes first. We implement the latest security measures, such as OAuth 2.0 for authentication, API keys for access management and SSL/TLS encryption for secure communication.
Sprint 0 is our inventory phase. In a few weeks, we completely map out the scope of a project: from goals and user requirements to technical requirements. In this way, we ensure a flying start and a solid foundation for what follows.

A Progressive Web Application (PWA) is a more advanced form of a web app that combines the best of websites and native apps. PWAs can work offline, send push notifications and are installed on a device's home screen via the browser. As a result, PWAs feel more like native apps, while retaining the accessibility of web apps.

Our office is in the heart of Oldenzaal, at the foot of the Plechelmus basilica and opposite the town hall. In front of the door is a large car park where you can park your car. If you come to meet us, we will switch on the parking meter for you. If you start working at Cube, we will arrange a parking permit for you. The current office has 45 fully equipped workstations. These are all equipped with a modern standing desk, ergonomic office chair and one or two 28" monitors.
